Sand Castle

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

Having some pun down under. They wanted some humor for a site, but you may need a Aussie slang dictionary for some terms.

Poem Artwork

Sand Castle

Sand from the Southern Cross bears magical mysticism
Castle, special nation, surrounded by ocean spell mists
True Grit, be national merit honor, To Be called Aussie
Fortified Iron Will stubborn stature, Too Bee called Australian.

Not everyone fights crocodiles, but they do fight right proud
While toasting brews for cricket, rugby, Australian football
There dardy tall tales, be ripper whoppers, upon lost knickers
Do not snicker, u-ie need to swag roll up, amid Sand Castle laughs.

G’day Australia, where you are always, ahead of English rhyme
And it takes almost a day for America to catch up to Aussie time.
Bloody pro(u-ie)d, amidst tempestuous raucous true blue national pride
Do not Piss Off, any Aussie, they might put you in a special dunny
That the upright uptight Brits, call a "Water Closet."

Note: I did a u-ie on the dunny, when number “two,” became this turn around number “one” piss off.
