Toilet Seat

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

How many wait upon a toilet seat, await-ring to get inspired, get motivated with a thought, and have only this porous TP, with no pen. That one has to go, and go; while one keeps a thought going, as one frustrated, flushes the toilet, to rush to a computer, before losing the music vowel movement, upon a splish-splash splosh flush.

This came from a post: Adam Schmitt
"I just wrote a song on the toilet thanks to this little back and forth. Thank you, sir!"

Toilet Seat

Sat upon a pondering consternation
Seems one had poetic constipation
When butt’s never moves writer’s block
One sits on it, nothing seams to happen
One grunts, moans; even passing inert gas.

Oh seat, how thee tests, thee artistic patience
Have things to do, but every time I arise
My but, falls back, knows something coming
Hear all those sounds; say something, something
All right, all ready, let the music movement begin.

I sat upon a toilet seat, awaiting a poetic treat. Alas, none did come, in either case, I sat for none.

I never found sitting on a toilet seat as inspirational, and left as soon as my business was done. But poems, while not as wordsmithing as yours always came easily, often within 15 minutes or so while not having a clue what I was going to write before sitting down before the computer.

You are right, napkins and toilet paper are not very good media for writing anything. But now almost everyone can text (not texted) poetry on their cell phones almost anywhere.
