there goes dye
American Dream
Clear cutting
South Austin Richmond
home space
Gentrification preparations
dost creates despair
Oh Poet,
thy Lark Cove,
be future
chopping block.

Down Mt. Vernon,
Banister Lane
encroachment
Dwelling be
clear cuts,
to build up
California real
Estate property
upscale valuation,
breaks The HeART
Of South Austin Manchaca,
dying American Dream.

Dost
speculator developers,
trump timber:
Poet Tree
Liberal HeART -
Lark Cove Dreams
Dost naught
America trump timber,
Our American Dream
Hope futile,
clear cutting
forlorn poem verse,
wilts awry.

void blank stares
Space open
needing to be

Patch word hole
quilt sorrow sod
Fall fallow
to knead

Gentrification seems to be benign word for a very terrible process. When I see all of those futuristic images of cities, no neighborhoods are spared for the shining towers and leaping corridors between signifying leaving the ground behind.

Austin, like so many cities near a major university, drawl in new companies and new blood craving housing with deeper pockets. Developers seize the day and use eminent domain, if necessary to make big bucks changing Austin's appearance.

But there are number of students particularly, who will join forces with local neighborhoods and fight to keep them free from being overtaken. Here in Houston, we have some cases where traditional ethnic housing and businesses are being preserved forever, regardless how the city grows. Generally here, anything over 20 years old is subject to being demolished and rebuilt.

Bonjour David Lester Young! Part of the difficulty at getting to the heart ('HeArt...Mospheric...) of your poems is the gathering "fudge" of private symbols and portmanteaux phrases such as "Poet Tree" that make their appearance when one least expects to envision them, making for much distraction in the principal theme at work. For instance, here the major assault is clearly what is at stake for ecological health in a given area (the use of place names - at least for me - amounts to further distraction or loss of appreciation), but when the poem's leit motif gets caught up with traditional connotations of The American Dream (I guess, to most foreigners, it means the possibility of making it BIG in the Land of Opportunities???), one wonders whether you are not deliberately placing "false" spoors towards directing your readers to foraging other ends... Meaning even if it's not poetry's platform is not served here where your last two stanzas clearly propounds WORDS as your saving-grace aim...

Hope you can disentangle my own brand of FUDGE. Best. Wignesan
