Why Should We Fear?

why should there be fear
of gentle hearts and accepting love?

you are there, i am here
but it’s so easy to feel you near

why should there be any regret?
we have lived, we have loved
even if imperfectly without balance

we’ve colored inside lines and out
made our marks on other hearts

lost our way a few times
sought to solve life’s riddles and rhymes

cried our tears of contrition
and asked for forgiveness
for commissions and omissions

we’ve climbed some heights
fallen into some depths
stumbled often in our steps

what is there to fear now
that we’ve not already tasted?

no i don’t fear your heart
haven't feared it from the start

and if i were queen
i would dub thee, Sir Beautiful
in whose heart dwells love plentiful

no i do not fear such a man
have no fear to take his hand

and even if i should be mistaken
you could take no more from me
than the years have taken.

you could never bring me
more pain than i've already had
to love is joy, to fear is only sad
