Do You Remember

do you remember that day
you asked me who my poetry is penned for?
it was a complex answer
for my poetry is inspired by many or none

and then you asked
“have you ever written it for me?”

truthful woman that i am, i confessed
i have thought of you more than once
enfolded in your arms as we dance

oh yes, we have danced
across long miles and high fences

we have kissed on slow trains
and under dim light of lampposts

we’ve coupled like animals
in dark alleys
and made love eloquently
on fourposters by the fireside
like a medieval knight and his lady

and found it all to be...perfection
but that is the beauty of fantasy
perfection

and that is the beauty of us
honesty and that spark that flies
so easily between us
across all the miles and fences

where lust is not ridiculed or murdered
and love is free, easy....and perfect
where friends can sometimes dare to be
so much more than friends

and i can safely throw away
the key to the cuffs
