Come Home Old Man
By La Belle Rouge

Come home old man, yes you are old now
and I, I am no longer the young widow
who tempted you that stormy night
on the banks of the Santee so long ago.
Come home and we will grow old together
and when we are finished we will lie
side by side eternally under the magnolias
on the riverbank where love found us.
Come home, Old Man, My Forever Love
and let me gently run my fingers through
your snowy hair and kiss the beloved lips
hiding amid the silver of your wiry beard.

Come home and be done with your wanderlust
I can yet stir your lust, satisfy your longing
with flesh less youthful but still warm.
We will lie again by the Santee, two old lovers
familiar friends, reliving the glory years
with touches of fire that has never waned.
With the knowing, slow hands of our love
we will pledge again all our tomorrows
to each other and once again the old oak
will renew his former strength enveloped
in the folds of the scented tender orchid.

Come home and find your rest in my arms.
Your poor feet are weary with wandering.
Your heart is heavy with such loneliness
You need never feel alone again, My Love.
Come home and enjoy the vintage cognac
and the potent cigars that always await you
Our little ones are all flown from the nest
it will be a time for naked surprises
and love at all hours anywhere we please.
Fall back onto the soft pillow of the love
of one who has never stopped waiting for you
to find the end of your road in her arms.
Come home Old Man, My Colonel, My Dearest
come home, come to me.

True unconditional long lasting love. The images in this one made my eyes water.... The hope of being loved at the end of life's journey is something we all desire.
This one touched my soul!

Ya know I had family in the reb army, as strange as that may seem(Spanish and Kentucky Irish) no colonels though. A nostalgic peice here, reminds me of turpentine tinctures, big hair and those colorful folks that were easy on the ears. thanx!

And you will both rise up and walk the Santee arm in arm through eternity, so lovely, heartwarming. Sort of reminds me of "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir"....

Be always safe,

This is very beautiful Belle. Very well written , and so very
romantic. I would imagine that after this letter of poetry,
he has already finished packing, and have already jumped on
a train, and is day dreaming and fantasizing about getting
there and growing old with you.
Excellent poetry !!!!

If the Colonel doesn't accept this invitation, I imagine a whole line of suitors lined outside your door - but I bet there's fire in the old engine, yet - he'll be there. :) Well done, La Belle!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

A wonderful invite for him to come again and take your love not for granted, but within and get a joyful feelling and let his troubles be taken care of by you. You will treat him extra special in your old age, even bringing him his cigars and all. Nice treatment like you want to give should not be refused. He should come running to you very soon. LOL

This is damn right so beautiful and moving it is painful, to have someone love and want you that much is...well can't even find the word for it but it is what wars are really fought for.

Old legs don't move as they should and its feet keep on wandering, why? only God knows, but as around the world I go I am returning to my Southern Belle.
