Unexpected Autumn
By La Belle Rouge

it was not in spring
when new life blossomed
and fragrance filled ambiance
lured hungry hummingbirds
it was not when i learned
of fluttering butterflies
that softly glide on breezes
of fledgling first kisses
and fanciful youthful dreams
of white weddings, cherubic babes

nor was it in sultry summer
when long days heat with desire
hot nights explode with passion
and the world seems bursting
with the small sensual nuances
shaping all the senses
to create a natural woman

it is now, when nights evolve
into extended darkness
weddings no longer appear white
and babes have become men
autumn changes our season
a taste of the late harvest
a touch of indian summer heat
before drifted snows lie heavy
against the bolted door of love

a last dance shared together
in frosted meadows before
the summer rose drops her petals
and we pensively fold away
soft garments of summer
to sit by the winter fireside
wrapped in blankets of memories
immortalizing the colorful beauty
of our unexpected autumn love

This is so...captivating, for the lack of a word good enough to describe the beauty as you pour out your heart in such wonderful and vivid images to define the lifetime of a love. Excellant...

This has the wonderful flavor of sitting back and enjoying past memories and once again bathing in its warmth, a sadness enwraps this piece, yet it flows ever so gently...

Be always safe,
Karen

Perfect ushering in of a new season. Times of fruition and times of dormancy to have a balance, a time to reflect on where we've been and with whom, and a time to decide where we are going and with whom...seasons embed us with memories and just the thought of crisp fall leaves and warm cider evokes a liking for ourselves and others...I like you, Belle...

Love,
Sage

You really have great perception and style. I love this one.
Would you permit this curmudgeon though to say that butterlflies are a 'that' not a 'who'!

Peace to you and thanks for this one.
