I wondered who my first victim would be;
perhaps a man of power and wealth?
Would he open his arms to welcome me
and soon lose his precarious health?
“Stay close behind but not next to me,”
Stefanos slyly whispered in my ear,
“We would not want our prey to see
the nature of our relationship here.
For we must be alluring to mortals
forbidden fruit and seduction’s child
they must long to enter our portals
and crave but a glimpse of our smile.”
And so he walked and I walked behind
hoping the evening’s banquet to find


Into a mansion with a veranda wide.
Laughter floating out on the breeze.
Sweet harpsichord music playing inside
the most discriminating taste to please.
Tinkle of wine glasses soft hum of talk
gave my memory a powerful shock
recalling a friendly after dinner walk
lost humanity seemed undead state to mock.
And then he stopped short to long gaze
on a vision of delicate beauty and grace.
Watching as melodious music she plays
young mortal woman with an angel’s face.
Her long golden hair coiffed into a bun
would be falling down ’ere night was done .
