What Consolation Hath The Undead, Save Debauchery And Blood?
Dark Consolations
By La Belle Rouge
we are the immortal creatures
spawned by the devil himself
born from filthy enigmatic wombs
of sordid unearthly imaginations
nurtured by foul breasts of fear
we are clever cheaters of death
haunting dark dreams of the living
feeding on unspoken trepidation
and forbidden fantasies of lust
watching from shadowed corners
mortals tossing, turning, sweating
sensing our unnatural presence
longing to see us, praying not to
we are outcasts, eternally exiled
from gold sunlight and hues of dawn
forever separated from any verity
of spirit or true expression of love
we instigate quickening heartbeats
in wanderers of dark street corners
and those passing cities of the dead
where impotent marble angels stand guard
we find our dark consolations together
in desolate places and debauched revelry
never to admire the beauty of reflection
in ornate mirrors hanging in lavish halls
nor in the depths of each other’s eyes
LaBelle,
On the surface, this is timely dark considering the spooky season/occasion approaching, but beneath there's a more universal resonance, our perpetually 'dark side' groping to see the light of hope and redemption.
Is it me or is this not quite as surreal as it is perhaps designed to be? I imagine many otherwise "sane" people have this kind of poor self-image at one time or another: I know I do! For all the fang-iness of the crazed diction, the tone and mood are wholly softened by the deluxe of the last two lines, showing the velvet heart of the Mistress within its toadskin casing! :)) As dark writes go, I can cope with this tolerably well and without becoming (or making!) a puddle on my seat... Love ya, Darlin Red Queen xx
"Just pleasures of the flesh" said the sadistic torturer pulling the chains of, piled on a corner, a bunch of false witches and sorcerers.
The guardian dragons, drooling at the side, can't keep their bulging eyes of a promised meal...but ten thousand lashes must be first be heard!

Well written. This is certainly an exit on the interstate of life you would want to miss.

Nice stuff, Belle / I can't believe I have written a "vampire" novel. It was the easiest and most pleasant experience insofar as writing I have ever hand. Usually writing my novels is like pulling teeth without Novocain(sp), but "Unholy Pursuit" was not like that at all, and I had a ball with it. When I finish the one I am writing now I plan on doing a sequel on it.
Effectively, chillingly penned ... wow. This one is excellent, La Belle, sends just the right amount of shivers up the spine (and adds more for good measure) - well done!
The dark shadows have begun...the souls are twirling in the protection of night...the shrieks are in the air and vile smells seem reluctantly to appear and...
