I read your tender words today
poetry only you and I have seen
flowing through my pounding heart
your spirit liberally refreshed mine
like fine vintage wine of the gods
for a moment my breath stopped
while my soul hung from balusters
of an ageless balcony of eternity
as my mind acquiesced the validity
of our mutual truths and emotions


it was then that I felt my heart
would burst with love and gratitude
that there is one who knows, lives
the depths of my own experience
one who can touch me as no other
and envelop me in warmth of arms
that have held me before and after
all the wonderings in my wilderness
one who can whisper in my darkness
with complete candor “ I understand”


oh to touch your face, kiss your lips
in that sacred shelter of a dream
for love and hope are not confined
to proximity nor sensations of skin
when I suffer this yearning for you
I trust that you can feel my fingers
lightly caressing your closed eyelids
my lips searching the corners of yours
until once again my love surrounds you
and the warm dream becomes worthy
of the cold want that has preceded it
