it was only a rose he offered with a smile
a fragrant flower to seduce her senses
a symbol of love, crimson like her passion
he hoped to rouse with a brush of his lips
only a rose, a silent witness to his words
that oozed into her ears down to her loins
he softly stroked her skin with the petals
hollow of her throat, valley of her breasts
not without sharp thorns this crimson rose
punctuating each secret pleasure with pain
until dew rested on the bloom of desire and
she knew it was amazing what a rose can do
I'm reminded of the tragic movie I saw once of a young French lover who was pricked by a rose thorn and, in a few days bled to death because she was a hemophiliac.
You have so delicately described the pleasure/pain experience of sex–the very thing that attracts and repels us and makes the act so exquisite.
More than romantic gesture, Belle,
this act of giving has deeper significance,
the suggestion of intent and feeling and passion,
and a rose, perfume, thorn and dew, is perfect in its truth.
Beautifully romantic and powerful!
Because we would do anything for the beautiful rose, maybe the secret is not to fight the pain, but to embrace the pain too.
Blessings,
Christine

Getting syrupy and sweet today, Belle. The rose is the perfect accompaniment for that to happen. Beautifully written.
