The Gold Locket Part 2
By La Belle Rouge

Upon a majestic steed, dark as a scorched wheat field,
The Moor sat on a saddle black as coal, silver-trimmed
The lady veiled her face so none saw the blushed thrill
her countenance displayed when she gazed long at him.
He lifted up his eyes, those mesmerizing orbs of ebony
and with one last unspoken embrace the Moor rode away.
The Lady felt a chill, though the future she could not see
and she wondered if she would hold her lover another day.
She watched him go as behind her veil the tear drops fell.
She could but wait and hope for his return sure and soon
‘oft such bloody conflicts raged long and no one could tell
if The Spanish Moor would return or meet with his doom.
She watched him ride away as a new dawn was breaking
and with him into battle the Lady’s heart he was taking.

With loving lips she kissed the locket ‘neath her veil
and silently she asked God to keep Her Love protected.
While he was gone she must survive in an aching hell
with the need of his presence and touch long neglected.
Within the very week The Laird returned from his travels
and commanded the grieving Lady to come to his bed.
When he takes her body, the depth of her soul unravels
and she endures it by imagining he is her Moor instead.
So long, so very long, her beloved Spanish Moor is gone
as her once flat belly begins to fill with child and swell.
She prays for him each night, watches for him at dawn.
She bears her secret alone, there is none she can tell.
And what will the Laird do to the babe and its mother
when caramel skin and black hair expose another?

Someone, (I don't know who) once said "... always leave them wanting more." and you always do.

Loved this one, Belle.

Drowning in the music, within a sea of tears
I read your lines...so elegantly sad...
My heart churns and burns for the lovers

A troubled heart, a lover departed, the future uncertain
and dangerous, you capture it all, Belle, and how
romantically and dramatically the poem speaks to us.
Wonderful!

More like a story than a poem, this timeless story of opposite attraction moves on and moves us, leaving us waiting for the next episode with bated breath.

Such a great story-telling here. Yearning, drama, war and mayhem, childbirth. It has it all.
And written with a romantic and classic style.
Great.

Belle, a classic rendering -- an intriguing love story, passion and lust overwhelmed with the dense haze of what the future might hold --but a woman that will endure, is evident -- I bid you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Ah, yes indeed, the long wait for the unveiling as it were of the newborn. The plight of the lady is the same plight felt by women throughout the centuries, alone as their men go forth into battle. This is classic poetry, and I am enjoying it.
