she sprang to life, mired deep in mud
beneath the murky river’s sacred flow
fish and crocodiles glided roundabouts
tubular pathways of buried beginnings
upward, ever upward, reach extended
through muck, gloom, papyrus reeds
until one full-mooned night her petals
opened toward silvery wakening force
hers was the fragrance of a goddess
power of an incomparable aphrodisiac
her seeds and petals a healing force
boiled, blended with honey, fermented
to concoct an elixir of the ancient gods
petals floating on pools of the pharaohs
she infused them with desire, virility to sire
a far-reaching progeny of many god/kings
she was hidden from Ra the Sun God ’til
magic of the traveler, mysterious Khonsu
brought to the surface unfeigned adoration
softly his beams caressed her white petals
and ardently kissed the center of her purity
her perfume filled the sacred night with love
her heart belongs to the Moon God alone
she is forever more his fair Lotus Blossom
Darlin Belle; it's such a privilege to read this beautiful narrative having just returned from the sensual opulence of a holiday in southern Spain, overlooking the coastline of North Africa. I feel I can entirely relate to the fecundity, magic and mystery of this fable. As always, such elegant storytelling that is naturally exotic and erotic greatly becomes you. xx
I wish someday before I die I might actually hear your voice reading your poetry somewhere as in print and I suspect even hear your voice would be a feast for the soul
The Lotus has been revered throughout history and you have wrapped all that up in a beautiful poem of her beauty and pungent fragrance.
