what do the dead mean in a dream?
with eyes opened and glazed
what do you find in their gaze?
are they there to comfort
or there to scare?
who are the dead
why are they there?
in the night awakened to fright
standing near your bed
the unseeing dead
why are they there?
should you care?
what should you do
if they talk to you?
jarred awake by the dead
on a stormy night
a sign of weakness
or spiritual might?
are you guilty
or are you strong?
are you soon going
where the dead belong?
ask them no questions
the dead tell no lies
you'll find no answers
in glazed dead eyes
back to sleep, if you dare
to wake again
with the dead still there

While reading it, I didn't feel frightened. Perhaps I'm just too jaded. It would've been nicer if it had a kind of diabolical cadence.
While recently it hasn't happened, about three years ago I was finding quite often as I opened my eyes from sleep that I would momentarily see an entire individual, in color, close by my bedside. The image didn't stay long enough and seemed very much alive, for me to see if it had those glassy eyes or not. I wasn't frightened by the images, but wondered how my brain conjured them up when I had never seen any of them, anywhere, before. They were that clear, for just an instant.
Pray for the light. Pray that you last that long. The Long Hour Before Light is a classic collection of Horror tales, re-mastered by Champagne Book Group
