Driving To Somewhere Else

by William R. Potter — Read all 18 poems by William R. Potter

Sometimes during the evening commute in another wet winter night I get down about things and I daydream about "Driving To Somewhere Else"

 DRIVING TO SOMEWHERE ELSE

Sometimes it's all too much
And I've become so tired.
My bank account dwindling

With the bills outweighing funds.

At home, children laughing too loud
And work is forever so boring.

My interest is rapidly shrinking
In the ever growing stress.

Winter is far too wet
And sometimes I'm so cold.
My hairline is constantly retreating
What remains is showing gray.

Responsibilities have become too great
And it feels so heavy.
My back and neck and brain are aching
I dream about driving somewhere else.

Others might say I have everything too easy
And they believe that I'm so lucky
My family is patiently waiting
I should be speeding home.

Perhaps I don't have it too terrible
And my loving wife so beautiful

My kids are healthy, happy, and amazing
What the hell was I thinking anyway?

I sometimes feel that way.I love how you ended it...Sometimes the only cure is being with those we think we want to take a break from. Just thinking about "driving to somewhere else" and getting away is often all we need to rejuvenate us because it makes us realize how much we have to be grateful for. wonderful description.

Oh, I know these feelings well... and I don't commute! hee, hee... but sometimes it is nice to escape in fantasies that I don't really want to come true except in minute portions...
