 Love of My Dreams

 By Robert T. Wood

Copyright © 2024 by Robert T. Wood

Through the still meadow the wind softly blows

Carrying the fragrance of wild spring flowers

That dot the meadow floor

Carpeted by healthy green grass

The only thing that breaks the silence now

Is my foot sliding through the delicate green blades

And the chirp of a lone sparrow

As I wander aimlessly through the meadow

Evening brings on a special look now

As the meadow fills with evening shadow

And a light mist floats in on a lonely cloud

That sets in between the trees

Adding a softness everywhere

Then among the trees sitting on a log

Is the girl of my dreams

Who I’d know so well anywhere

I can see her soft figure all alone there

She’s dressed all in white with long black hair

At first I just stood to stare

In disbelief how could she be there

As I pictured her in my dreams

More beautiful than I ever imagined

I move steadily toward her now

But as the distance between us decreased

I could see her beautiful figure fade to a mist

And as I reached the log where she once sat

I stood there once again in loneliness

Dreams are like that. They come and go like the morning mist.
