As the Middle East continues to gather momentum in its determination to repeat its history of irreconcilable wars, one is reminded that mankind is still struggling to be what it claims to be. (Image by Dali)

Blade Shadows Rising
by Odin Roark
Archaic dirt rises,
Elastic creatures we,
Bending to the zone,
Dodging crustaceans to come.
Where once clear water flowed,
A forged weapon lays dormant,
Wanting its time to be the all of all,
For are we not war in waiting to be?
Tomorrow the gray sun of before time
Will once more remind us of gathering dust,
Of warriors once bold,
Now waiting,
Waiting.
Black is the white that once was,
Its color swallowed by the abyss long gone,
And now the ground is quaking,
The killing season’s irrigation complete,
The shards of hate are rapidly becoming
Blade shadows rising...again
I read recently that the United States, a peace loving country, only interested in making the world more peaceful, spends, I forget the exact figure, but it's about 70% of the world's entire military spending for highly offensive, "defense" weaponry. Even in World War II when the threat was the greatest, aside from the Cuban crisis, mainland United States has not been at war since around 1900. Yet, as a result of World War II and the Cold War, we have a huge military-industrial complex that feeds upon itself and the federal budget all for mythical "defense."
In a very short time, the Global Village of the Internet will educate the youth of the Middle East and war there, too, will be over. There will be skirmishes. But good will win over evil.
