Giving Back
by Odin Roark
The trickle of glacial melt
becomes a stream of gathered time,
merging with other events of nature,
somehow ending only to begin again,
for oceans may roil and pitch,
but evaporation is its sigh,
with ethereal purge
expanding its knowledge
that surviving is the act
of giving back.
So too goes the course of love,
its primary character not rivers of passion,
but awareness of infatuation’s trickle,
commitment traveling toward an unknown,
finding an abundance of the collective,
a devotion to the whole,
where the gathering of desire,
the feeding of one’s inner self
respectfully relies on the calm of nature’s heart,
even as it will again explode its passion
accept the tear-filled aftermath of its clouds
as but a necessary part of the endless beginnings,
and refresh again the cyclic pattern of nature’s nexus
in eternal process of endless beginnings.
For we are a unique product of our environment, from the menstrual cycles matched to the moon and the tides, to the violent outbursts and destruction of lightning and the wars on the land from volcano, tsunami, hurricane, and fire. All of these natural events are mirrored in our emotions. May we all be blessed with the colorful placid peacefulness of Indian Summer love.
