Fossilized Ancestry

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

A strong argument can be made for optimism rapidly becoming an endangered principal of hope. For on this eve/day before the country’s Super Tuesday begins its decisive measurement of who and what a populous might become, its seems appropriate to take another look at the real possibility it’s going to be a long season of treacherous bidding for rulership, versus sane leadership. For whether in war’s persistence in Africa, the rubble of Syria, or the emboldened threats from North Korea, any present or future demagoguery of a dictator’s aspiration is destined to repeat the chronicled past and become still more misguided optimism led by ignorance’s glad-hand invitation into the Big Top of illusion. Fossilized Ancestry
by Odin Roark

Impending storms of mongering
cling to sentimental pasts,
destine repetitious futures.

Even as dictators prepare their next sleight of hand,
bound together by hope and fear,
duped emotion continues its lock-step toward nihilism.

As reality begins to set in…

Some might shudder with the melting cold facts,
not realizing fascist coercion is paltry
to its hubristic determination to create
21st century gulags of modern slavery,
a state of being where a wintery one-season philosophy
offers duplicitous answers for the angry and desperate,
the minions patiently waiting the warmth of relief
forever imprisoned by fantasy.

Upon history’s storm-scarred tundra,
the always crumbling shelter-of-relief grins
as crystalized mistakes continue to freeze

Within such flimsy walls of promise,
one finds promised wood,
but no kindling.
Canned nourishment
but no opener.

Freedom’s wedged open door
enjoins icy gust repeating the primeval dance
where hope's motionless calliope dream,
once of carousel-innocence
is now a whirlwind of regret.

Many attempt escape,
but hypothermic hallucination has taken over
delivering unconscious endings,
to evil's model of successful failure,
perpetually denouncing truth as bogus
sucking out the air with romantic vacuous rules.

Such becomes another future chapter
in antiquity's legacy of errors.

This frozen world,
today's repeat of yesterday,
this unending Phoenix,
its ashen ruins but ice-covered contradictions,
affronts existence like some whirling dervish
of gluttonous nature,
one's anomalous Leviathan,
aberrational cotton candy
frozen on one's tongue of childish belief.

And this we call humanity.

But

Climb,
grab,
crawl,
go they,
we,
I,
civilization’s moral impotence bowing to
power’s bullying persistence,
evil's fraudulent drippings
enveloping misguided yearnings
into glaciated ornaments,
becoming yet future layers
of fossilized ancestry
once known as the human species.

This one is the creme de la force of history's attempts at civilization faced with the destructive behavior of the selfish gene.

While once again, imbecilic naysayers seem to be ruling the roost, it has happened many times before, and, while civilizations have failed repeatedly in the past for their ignorance, collectively, we have amassed enough scientific knowledge to quickly counter most threats, including growing global warming, with minimal collateral damage.

United States of America as endured bad political choices many times in the past and also faced great dangers as recently as the last century. Humankind is as resourceful as it is brutal. I'm looking forward to a civilized future with a thawed out ancestry from the ice ages of the past.

Well expressed. Filled with strong emotion and power and great imagery. I like it. Appealing to popular passions and prejudices and fears seems what the 'Demagogue' is all about. What I see coming frightens me a bit. Always enjoy your work. Peace to you. r ...

Election season mocks civility, honors money, elevates brashness, and allows no time for reason. Sensible people shun it thus virtually guaranteeing all that we trust falls, and all that we disavow rises and takes control. You said it better.

A nightmarish romp through humanity's pseudo aspirations, highlighted particularly in this campaign season those "imprisoned by fantasy" into thinking that they are suitable to be the leader of the so-called free world. What a joke, except it isn't funny, as you rightfully point out, noting "fossilized ancestry". I really see very little hope in the wings. On that score, we seem to be in harmony. John

this is all about the human conscience and capability to act within a chaotic inevitability or the inevitable downfall, if you wish. This is what the dialectical materialism teaches us, and there are no secrets. What the secret truly is to me is how one can reproduce such phrases and metaphors that ornament one another in the canvas of poetry. . . where is the fountain for 'the history’s storm-scarred tundra' and ' a wintery one-season philosophy' and ' gulags of modern slavery' and 'carousel-innocence which is now a whirlwind of regret' (the latter is mostly pitiful) regarding the identity of those grey functionaries and candidates of politics revealed in such a way. . . Cheers, alex
