Man's Tempest

Amidst the global ethnic, political and religious battles, it is truly the inner-makeup of people responsible for destroying people, not any exterior excuse. (Image of simon Russell Beale in RSC production)

Man’s Tempest
by Odin Roark

Why so much clouded darkness… life without air?

What is this whirlwind of greed and avarice... this resultant famine of principal?

Why so lacking in rapprochement… we?

Like a planetary tempest,
people seed their storms of discontent,
rolling,
inverting,
slamming
sinking
and again erupting
like an ocean tsunami without shores,
its tumultuous waves
without any ebb and tide respite,
void of nature’s innate perfection.

Where drifts this sentient gift of man,
this once surfable floatation above the turmoil ,
this learned avoidance of ill born conflict,
our instinct to survive above the fray?

What is this that would destroy the calm of love?

Beyond the turbulent darkness
resides the ever-seeable light,
a beckoning within
pleading to be understood,
knowing to seek the shore
is a choice that asks we step upon
neutral sands of history’s evolution
walk the lessons learned,
chance even more teachable bruises,
scratches,
brokenness.

For to seek such wisdom
is to renew life as it should be…

one without man-made tempests.

Stop the world I want to get off!!! It seems that there will always be those that want more and more and more. Greed and power.

exactly, the fray, which is the only way to show who's who actually. . . ability to act within the chaos is a great capability to get out dry from an artificial storm in a teacup. Yes, to be a man is the toil. Enjoyed this very much. Cheers, alex

We are ingrained with the alpha male syndrome, embedded in the family and every organization on earth. Alpha males rarely get to enjoy the lofty position of power very long before others try to usurp their positions. Conflict is inevitable as a result. And it is, as you have noted, tragically man-made.

"Man-made tempests" Not only globally but inter-personally. In the world I work in (thankfully semi-retired now) I can't remember ever enduring such cliquishness, rancor, and suspicion. Reestablishing cordial relations seems a pipe-dream. Unless somebody wants something from you that is. Something foul this way comes. A beast with the kind of brutal strength that cannot be resisted. Often your work seems to mirror what's going on in the news. Appreciate much these thoughts about circumstances that affect each and every one of us. A fine expression. Stand strong! r

An interesting attempt to explore the madness that prevails in today's world. You have drawn up some wonderful images, not the least your mention of the tsunami "without ebb or tide". Well said and right on the mark. If anything, it all tide and no ebb. We are innundaded with the madness of misunderstanding and ignorance. I appreciate your courage in exploring these themes. John
