Detritus Eternal

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Mortality, that oh so delicate feather-like reality, tends to nudge the experiences that serve to remind us: there is no end.

Poem Artwork
Detritus Eternal
by Odin Roark

Spirit seems indomitable
as vitals of life’s machine trudges on,
grasping the trust embe dded in ones psyche,
that caressing touch the mind implores ones body to feel.

To many,
like an afterburner having served its purpose,
the energy of atoms now of a different make and model,
thrusts forward into the next iteration of existence,
confident that time and motion are eternal,
that another modality of existence is always in waiting.

This reminds me of the theory of circles and cycles, of death and rebirth, which as you suggest in the poem, the soul, spirit, life, energy never truly dies but is forever reborn, the mystery of awakening that we live with every day of our lives. John

I view your form as the transition from middle age of self accomplishment and relative good health, to the relentlessness of old age with various infirmities of the body that eventually affect the spirit. Of course, the final modality of existence is nonexistence.

there are so many talks of the true meaning of Chinese term 'qi' (often translated as breath, energy, even gong-fu itself). As a matter of fact, qi is the substance that converts the tangible (jing or internal organs) into intangible (shen or spirit); the more the concentrated substance-qi the faster the process. This piece I interpret in the same way of converting, also known as the transcendence, which paradoxically means 'never go too far.' Cheers, alex

A bit of a humanist's paean to hope and a nod towards some sort of faith ass well. I like the way this one reveals the narrator's waning of doubt. And I like the structure of the poem as well. Nice work, sir.
