Attempting to define the essence of life's portrait can be daunting. What would we do without language, without expression of texture and color to affix on the canvas? (Image by Johan Swanepoal)

Galleries of Mind
by Odin Roark
With the brain molded to create what it thinks,
how tensile this airless life must be.
Like a sponge submerged again and again
its potential becomes its intake from all around
seeking relief by bursting forth.
Before the thirsty cells of absorption come alive,
there is the first a sprinkle,
the droplets imagined,
spurring cups of reality to spill into prominence,
to flood the eager fingers and hands,
to float the point of a pen,
to glide this simple tool
over water ever-floating,
cosmic ice never melting,
carving its language signposts,
purging its past,
welcoming thought's future.
So it goes
This mind shaped by what it holds or makes,
words being but one tool of this amorphous lexicon
ever faithful to be drawn on surfaces,
sung with life’s air,
painted for hearts in want,
Whether from letters to words
brush to canvas,
baton to music,
imagination awaits its grounding.
And thus…
Anticipating the moment of discovery,
creation once lingering in contemplation,
chances bursting forth.
Love your illustrations this time. You always seem to come up with startling images for us to view and contemplate.
