Eyes of Mist

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Vengeful feelings are persistent. To be abused both physically and mentally requires strength to survive. But to forgive? Such delivers the quintessential peace. (This piece is not about the recent hearing) (Image by Nina)

Eyes of Mist

There are many times
when rancor’s praying mantis
patiently waits.

Frozen shackles
and rusted chains
gripping a fearful heart
remain motionless.

Vindication’s moment brandishes paralysis,
submissive smiles become
hard won immunity,
and destiny evades demise,
as it gently disarms
disguised weapons of slavery
with compassion’s embrace.

For lest we forget…

Lessons learned
warm one's frigid past,
defrost harbored resentment,
banish clinging disappointment,
evaporate icy delusions,
and replaces resentful tears
with misty eyes of forgiveness.

I may smile. I may say I forgive you. Do you believe it? Try me. Don't turn your back.

Love ya!

I, fortunately, haven't experienced physical and mental abuse. But I hope I can have some empathy for those that have. I do find it hard to forgive because it is not in my nature. I have noticed that if don't do anything and let things ride without rancor, karma will take over and correct the problem without my even having to deal with it.
