Love’s Whip and Spur Impatience

How nomadic this passion,
wanting little of settlement,
longing to be free,
but not knowing the way.

How anxious this focus of pleasure,
its gallop past desolate plain
in search of mountainous missions
where reward is often times out of reach.

How discordant the disappointment,
but onward Love pushes,
traversing virulent escarpments of hope,
seeking a perfection often nonexistent .

Love finds instead a blindness inside clouds,
rendering white-outs from passion’s groping,
where confined alone with self-worth,
fantasies usher in self-doubt.

Such is the playful enigma,
sometimes finding contentment idle,
preferring instead a hunter's flurry,
the conquest of possession,
the entrapment of trophydom.

How forgiving the mirror within,
where Love seeks not the fixed-ropes of security,
nor the attachment to object,
but merely respect of inner-reflection's embrace
acceptance of innate compassion.

Rewarding is Love’s

obstacle encountered voyage completed,

a worn, yet indomitable resolve,
questing beyond mere humankind's summits,
to that place in one’s heart

where gentle footsteps,

and tender words,
make needless the whip and spur of impatience.

Odin! This is fantastic! Your words capture that "feeling" we all love. We are love to love poets and readers and lovers. Rapture is what you have wordsmithed.

Love ya!

An interesting foray into the enigma of love. Truly enjoyed…

I don't know about horses, but cows will not step on a grate for fear of falling through. So, although the image is striking, two images of reality come into play. A horse would never step on the slats a bridge like that, regardless of who there were supporting hand ropes or not. And, that bridge looks to flimsy to carry the weight of the horse and rider.

Perfect! I especially love the last line. So hard to let go of that whip!

Blessings.

I just got that eerie feeling when two of us tackle similar subjects. Your interpretation is much deeper and more poetic than mine. Nothing new there. I love your imagery in both words and the picture. They allow readers free reign to find their own meanings down the pathway of love without much prodding. Another super write.

Each stanza stands out on its own in this unique poem. A different take on the workings of love for sure.
