Poem Artwork

Beneath My Pillow

Then…

That ear-to-ear warmth

once born of the tooth fairy

so long ago,

foreshadowed with impish surprise

the finding of your caress.

I did curse you once though, or twice.

So much of the unexpected you did reveal,

often cut short by my fear.

Then your innocence lingered in my memory,

almost hiding,

just hovering there,

seeming to follow me.

Shadowing my anxiety,

it was only a matter of time

before succumbing to your miracle,

your healing of dreams,

once of nightmare.

Now…

You remain ever-present,

an enigmatic reality

in the gleam of a river's flow,

the sparkle of a starry sky

the brush of a single feather.

I just have to awaken and remember

the surprise beneath my pillow so long ago,

when smiles and trust were the norm

as they are now.

A wonderful memory, and I'm so glad the tooth fairy is back and you are in good graces.

Very sweet, very tender poem of innocence. Fine work.
