Many argue the writer is merely the conduit through which the “already” flows. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

For the Few

Yesterday

Cold winds careened
Through high-rise canyons
Offering answers
Made by
But
Not for
Everyone

Empty avenues faked it
While substance continued
Through narrow streets
And three-lock doors

Today

The creative in deep thought
Hands jammed in pockets
Avoids pedestrian confinement
Walks empty galleries
Back alleys
Idle waterfronts
Awaiting the muse

Red lights
Cross walks
For Hire signs pass

Anxiety motors by
While Time peers
From on high

Into the night

At the ready
Splash-gutters echo
Rain-sluiced yesterdays
Where unwanted memories
Wash away
But never dry

Imagination waits patiently the sun
While the creative
Still walks

Seeks creation
Invents what tomorrow
May already know

For the Few

Your words got to me, Odin! You take me to a different place and a different time. A "Few" of us are here, indeed!

Love ya!

"For the Few" . . . Yes. Indeed.

For the few, or for the many, we write, and sometimes we write only for one. I really liked the 5th stanza, and the image of rain sluicing away yesterdays.
