Love’s Essence

Slow burn of a lengthy love,
sometimes longing for
bonfires of euphoria
rising quickly to
spectacular flame,
consuming ash upon ash.

Tear drenched eyes
smile upon the search
for kindling,
forest to flame
lighting up skies,
primal,
animalistic.

So goes
early dawn,
twilight,
smoke ethereal
remembering
all that was,
that is,
that counts.

Now of silver hair,
Ensure-plus,
and sweatpants,
gauzy spectacles from afar
rewind the mystery of then,
piquing dopamine euphoria,
physical affairs,
cerebral affairs,
spiritual affairs,
soul to soul merging,
titillating synapses,
chemistry unspoken,
augmenting self to self.

How chaste the body,
passionate the mind,
together in spirit,
separate in flesh,
blind adoration,
unconditional support,
love's essence reborn.
