Manhattan Sunrise

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For those of unbridled energy, the kind one feels in their 20’s, there’s something about standing at the base of a NY crevasse of opportunity, waiting for daybreak, that can’t be substituted, but can be forever remembered. (Image by pinterest)

Manhattan Sunrise

We will the journey endless,
yet know life’s refrain

eventually fades out.

We sense the inside of our hearts

are of anxious rhythmic consideration,
our way station of life where respite

or more challenge will temper whether
yesterday’s beauty and pleasure

will again rise with tomorrow’s sun.

Perplexed with expectation
we become troubled.

Fearful we…

Who will hear the melodies,
blood’s crescendo and diminuendo ripples,
see rainbow vibrations rise atop

a sparrow’s whistling breeze,
smell the sensory freedom of Central Park flowers
opening by dawn’s fraternal light,
taste duration of life’s savory consciousness,
touch fretful brushstrokes of yet-to-come dreams
still seeking sentient canvases?

Restless…

Aware longevity’s final movement inexorable,
our essence retains purchase atop our will,
not yet willing to embrace
the echo of breath’s finality.

Tenacity smiles

Canyons shimmer anticipation

Manhattan sunrise awakens.

Love NYC, hope it has better year next year. Great poem, the calming sense to it, I might expect more a sunset, but I really like the sunrise.

There is something unique about a Manhattan sunrise, which I have experienced and loved, here beautifully described. Loved it.

Cities are a thing of beauty as the sun rises, not so much for me NYC, but Philly was a really cool early morning when there I used to live and play...ah for my young adult years, drugs and drinkin', then up to take a shower before I start the day all stinkin'...this brings back some memories, thanks...-e-
