All In Fantasy

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

All those out there with dreamland wants, desires, riches, there are others aware that their needs, for the most part, are being met, and they are appreciative. What a heavy load those of only “want” carry in their hearts and minds. (Inage by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

All In Fantasy

At Hope’s gaming table,

How long the night becomes

As one sinks into bed,

Staring upwards at a ceiling of dreams,

Seeing only the cards from yesterday played and thrown in,

Hoping on the next round

The table will deliver a magic

Winning card,

Face,

Down,

For my eyes only.

Such have been the many hours

Of heart thumping,

Mind twisting

Dreams upon dreams,

Waiting for the moment

When the one sure table of risk

Delivers the reward of winning

The one sure crazy gamble pay off.

How relentless

The dawn of suffering,

Reminding one of the unnoticed nocturnal gaming table

As the early light always shining on reality

Reveals all that is true

Keeping the buried card of want…

Buried.

There is something in us that wants more than we deserve. I guess that's why, in poor neighborhoods, the numbers game thrived for so long. And it is interesting how state governments have created lotteries that are more successful than ever. Everyone hopes they will win in a long shot bet that is always stacked in favor of the house.

Life certainly imitates with fortunes granted to those who were lucky. Those who are at the right place at the right time. That's why we have drug addicts, relationship addicts, and gambling, among others like obsessive-compulsive dieters or neat-nicks, hoarders. All the flaws the flesh is heir to.

Better to focus on the real need and meet it in a timely way. Relax and enjoy the fulfillment of having comfort in the way we are rather than the way we think we need to be.
