From Where Does Evil Come

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- While ruminating over today’s latest chapter of the White House insanity, I remembered a poem I’d written years ago. How time does repeat itself. A fellow poet reviewed it and had layers to add, which I share with you out of appreciation for his thoughts.

“True faith of life requires apostasy to recover it from the faux impulses cementing it to the mind in the first place, so to activate its true power. The first must fall to erect the second. The System here, for me, is the system required to connect to the mystery of beingness, define it how you will with whatever set of words or dogma suiting the occasion. It's still the same thing. In other words, don't look back for the truth, look here, but in looking here, assume the responsibility that comes with true sight, and this is not limited to the objective needs of the day but to all that which emanates from life. In that pleroma is the soil to be watered by the tears of terror and ecstasy.” Daniel Berkey

From Where Does Evil Come?

Or go?

  The System

Dreams of past pleasures
cling suspended
as if Stewie Griffin's magical time machine
or a new century's "Yellow Submarine"
can restore revered illusions

But above

gravity's belfry
the tone of desires
held fast by our eagerness to enjoin
seduces our senses
unlocks imagined doors
preciously bolted

All the while

we expect the return
nirvana's long-ago reality
believing we can continue to live
beneath the waves

But forever awash

drifts the flotsam
jetsam
our attached history
glyphs afloat Time's miscarriage of justice
tinsel plutocrats we allowed
glowering at our submerged attention
deep below the whitecaps of misbegotten urges

While some

the stillborn of purpose
amid stagnant amniotic fluids
sink further
resigned to be but
dredge-worthy bottom feeders
wallowing in darkness seen only
by synthetic light above

Our incorporeal destiny

confined by the blur-significance
pulses the swells atop
the tsunamis awaiting deeper shifts
understanding patience forges...

The System

This describes the system perfectly.
