My Name Is Nobody

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Many would argue greatness is without fame. When will the innate intelligence of humankind rise above the clutter of “wannabe” and recognize the malaise of celebrity addiction? Historical evidence shows that an artist is about the “work,’ not the artist. He or she is but a vessel of delivery. Such is this piece of prosetry/slam. Yes, there is a film of influence, as history has many variational influence on today. (Image by My Name Is Nobody)

My Name is Nobody

Today’s

Signposts
Along the way

Any missed?

Now
Marooned in a paradise,
A reputation for...

Oh, how glorious the surge

from such distant darkness
did he come
traversing mountains of agent ice,
rivers of producer rage,
temperate zones of starlet heat.

He arrived
late upon the flowering cacti,
falsely imbued with the silver spoon,
such expected pleasures
for the taking.

Still…

Nightmares
lit up his night
childhood signposts,
"Don't Touch,"
Teen signposts,
"Grow up,"
Young adult signposts,
"Danger Ahead,"
Adult signposts,
"Beware!"

Identifying choices reared it enormous head.
Who,
What,
Everything is what it is.

Eyes open.

Eyes...

Closed?

All ignored

All...

He was a good kid.
Ate his veggies.
Earned his merit badges.
Made Valedictorian.
Married the Prom Queen.
Turned down opportunities.

After all…

Carnal joys beckoned.

Slipped.

Oh
Such a ... missed…

Celebrity dream.s

Go-for.
Yes.
Assistant.
Yes.
Learned the moves.

Made the moves.
Dealt out the moves.

Glittering red carpets.
Prom Queen long gone.
Lanky.
Leggy.
Trophies on each arm.

Arrived.

Launched.

Oops…

"Sharp Curve Ahead"

Another signpost Ignored.

Really.

Ignored.

Oh, how deliverance beckons

In unexpected embraces.

A life in the life of kind of journey expressed. All of that fame climbing resulting in nobody whatsoever. "That's life," Frank Sinatra used to sing. With conviction, and in your slam it rings. Why we would work so hard to become a nobody, nobody knows.

Once again glad I checked back a couple of days that I missed coming here keeping the alligators off my ears.
