Eve of Solace

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

At times in one’s awareness, the disappearance of day’s often glaring light
gives rise to a darkened mantle appearing with an unexpected glow, an unanticipated kind of illumination one needs.

Poem Artwork

Eve of Solace

To where did the day’s glare sink

Offering in exchange

The eve of curative light

That cooling emergence of nightly glow

Soothing one’s unearned scars from duplicitous caresses

Evolving into razor-edged carvings

Beams of healing…

Lit from within by fledgling stars about to move about

Gifting youthful laughter to spark the darkness

Igniting the tool of a poet’s grief

Into epiphanies for the minds quill

Grounding swirls and straight lines of appreciation

Leaving behind its lessons

As nourishment

For stars yet to be born

Bequeathed by the eve of solace

It’s the pairings that carry this for me: “curative light,” “unearned scars,” “tool of a poet’s grief.” “unanticipated kind of illumination” is plenty good, especially the ‘unanticipated’ part. Expectation is a frivolous trickster. ~~ djl

"The eve of curative light," how I love that phrase. I too have often written about the sanctity of night as opposed to the harshness of the bright day. "For stars yet to be born // bequeathed by the eve of solace." Simply beautiful. One of your best.

"Soothing one’s unearned scars from duplicitous caresses," is the key line here. Apparently as the darkness leads to the normal process of shutting down thoughts to go to sleep leads to a warm glow that extends off the cutting edges of past transgressions on one's soul.

A rather difficult piece to understand without knowing the underlying cause.
