Exhuming Buried Feelings
How deep the abyss of love’s precipitous graveyard,
A place that at high noon realizes light-shedding mistakes
Becomes defenseless as the shadows of hiding have nowhere to go.
Fearful of creating more of the same,
Man holds securely the remaining strands
Of rappelling hope,
Where fibers of youthful safety
Once so secure,
Now of tenuous scarred forewarning.
How arid the updraft
Of seeming bottomless graves,
Reminding the descent
Mistakes and regrets
Maintain vigilance
In this landscape
Of life’s efforts,
Mistakes,
And failures,
Are but lessons needing to be learned.
To reach the bottom,
Exhume the remains of errors in judgment,
Lessons having had time
For knowledge to secure purchase
Wisdom’s possibility
May be rendered at last.
Oh, how unearthing the remnants
Of misguided and ill-timed determination
Exalts the spirit within,
Where ethereal judgment
Understands reprieve,
Forgiving the child in the man,
And the innocence of growth,
To have a final chance.
To heal a part of the infallibility of humankind.
Here…
Might such an unearthing lead one
To trails yet to discover,
Highways awaiting smooth transit
Into Man’s destiny now in hand,
Where fate having had its chance,
Succumbs to the dream of bliss
Within one’s learned lessons of growth.
To be given such opportunity,
Bestows confirmation of life’s forensics,
Those often hidden,
Buried,
And seemingly impossible clues to answers.
One is reminded
Fulfillment of joy and happiness
Is forever available.
We only have to risk the effort
To actuate the lessons.
Makes me a bit fearful of our younger, innocent youth, now confronted with fentanyl or some other candy colored or slipped into drink, drug, at a party. A lesson that could prove life damaging or even death.
