Beyond the Quiet
While neuroscience probes deeper
Into that place beyond quiet,
Where radiator rumble
Refrigerator hum,
And pipe rattling
Ceases to be,
The why of our hidden thinking core
May remain undiscovered.
Even as a dog knows
Beneath opening and closing yawns
An alley cat fathoms all
While cleaning silently in the night,
Adults know little
Of the silence of thought beyond the now,
Save the innate noise that precedes
Pursuit of such quiet revealing.
Perhaps…
Insight remains reluctant,
Fearful of its own discovery,
Where lexicons unknown
Will articulate shadowed inflorescence,
Where blooms of vision will implore
Just as a baby discerns
Sight's first experience
And pleads for more.
Innocence
Always tenuous,
Remains accessible to the courageous
Returning the joy of awe
To those fearless of time.
And we…
Can only wonder
If destiny's dawn reveals
A rare sense of security
When serenity becomes fate's guide into darkness,
Where for the moment
Light may continue sleeping.
My, my…
How noisy might silence remain tomorrow?
The amount of knowledge is growing as you have described in your prose, and the human brain is massively capable as it is. But not enough to store it all through all the noise of emerging current events. Back around 20 years ago I started relying on Internet searches to find facts or verify them. Before that, I had to go to a library or use one of the outdated, always outdated, encyclopedias to get my answers. Often, while quietly pursuing my need, with my brain noisily trying to find the right route to my discovery, I was sidetracked or even didn't find anything after four or five hours of inquiry.
I think that AI has come along just in time to make our minds capable of learning anything from the rapidly growing knowledge base. I can't help think about how much noise is going to the minds of those computers as they gather daily the entire world's information and neatly stored where it can be found 300 years from now.
