A Shadow in Search

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

The “whys” of our journey often seem out of reach, yet we remain determined to know our purpose in this life that is so short. So, some of us try and write out the journey… rocky as it may be. Many believe we were not meant to be alone.

A Shadow in Search

Many believe…

Our walks since birth mere shadows of
A journey lit from behind and beyond the ocean
Where prickly pears gaze fondly
On our careful approach.

You watch as I remain connected
And felines purr to sunlight's rays,

Their eyes of day/night focus
Ever mindful danger comes in day’s light

As well.

To remember the auto crash,
The rolling instants becoming hours,
The dust of salient messages premature,
All before the quiet,
The safety needing urging
In this moment?

Today

I climbed the rock marked coldness,
The ancient echoes of one’s past whispering stories,
Some of joy,
Many of sorrow,
All part of a day's ticking time
Waiting out tomorrow.

Still

How vigilant your silhouette
Where light is dimming,
When some might pull the covers
High across eyes that refuse to accept,
While smiles stay fixed
Upon my door
Always open,

Helpless to close.

Is there reason
Air floats endless mantras,
Just as the butterfly stays aloft,
Wings motionless,
Sustaining us both
While your final shadow
Ventures in erroneous places
Unable to find me,

To allow the light

To forge ahead

Allowing rest

For your preamble of true living?

I'm not sure what to make of your small slices of life portrayed. Recalling to rollovers that seemed to be in slow motion with "dust flying" I can relate to that stanza better than the others.

Perhaps the beginning of understanding life is understanding patterns. Carl Jung said that "everything that irritates us about others can lead us to a deeper understanding of ourselves." Some truth in that. I imagine that remaining curious is an essential muse for creative types who continue trying to make sense of life, and their place in it. I don't think we ever can truly understand though. Whatever wisdom may be, it is far off and most profound. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its true meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it. So thankful we can write about it though, as you do. Your curiosity and steadfastness remain intact. A thought-provoking piece. Well done. Peace.... r
