Fearing Risk

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

We get so caught up in our fears, that we forget what might be going on in Nature’s chancy existence.

Poem Artwork

Fearing Risk

Oh, how it pleads

Send rain and sun

But with balance

Thorns trail up its stem-path to the safety of closure

Where

Hours

Days

Weeks

Grant it the light and moisture it hungers for.

Eventually…

Time presents that moment of chance,

The moment to risk the opening of its bud,

Only to hesitate.

For unlocking its petals to exposure,

To have these extensions of crimson beauty

Die in the unpredictable heat,

Is more painful a thought

Than staying closed

In isolation

The dew of a moisture-poised morning

Reminds the bud

That tears of another kind

Hang in the dawning of early morning,

Knowing Mother Nature  will wash away the muffled weeping of risk

Held tight by fear’s bondage .

Three read-throughs and I am left with another verb alongside ‘risk,’ and that is ‘trust.’ In this I feel the lines “Die in the unpredictable heat,/Is more painful a thought/Than staying closed/In isolation” bring out another few lines “You will know it is time to make a change/When it is more painful to stay than to go.” ~~ djl

An interesting allegory using a rose covered with dew as a parallel for how nature provides for the cleansing of fearful actions and thoughts. Very creative.

The image of the dew-drenched budding rose well serves your message here of the importance of courage found amid the grand sweep of nature that we can take up and own. Yet another example of the multitude of things we stand to learn if we pay attention. Beautifully rendered.
