Lotus Awakening

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Across cultures, the lotus flower symbolizes purity, strength, resilience, and rebirth, representing the transcendence of spirit over worldly matter. It is a sacred symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, associated with the womb of the universe and the overcoming of adversity while maintaining the purity of spirit.

Lotus Awakening

How humble is this awakening blossom

Its dazzling brilliance

A struggle from mud

To germination

To seed

To water

To reaching up high with its stems

Finding purchase atop Aqua Bliss

And sprouting its wings of demure grace

Why such deep rooting in mud

Why such a chosen domicile?

Opting to sprout into exalted blooms

With colors that imbue peace in the beholder

Lifting the spirit of the most downtrodden soul

Yes…

Short duration of bloom

But perennial in its habitat

Assures the caregiver of Nature

Morning sunrises bringing

Continued awakenings of new buds

With renewed hope that pure beauty can render sublime comfort

Heart willing

I have often included the lotus and its symbolic value into the verses of my own poetry. Here you have done it justice with a lush rendition of its powerful beauty, "sprouting its wings of demure grace."

A beautifully mysterious flower that carries much weight in many cultures. And in context to us as creative individuals: we all have the ability to rise up from the muck and mud, bloom out of the darkness, and if we're blessed, radiate out into the world. A lovely insight. Enjoyed. r

Literally uplifting, Odin. These lines let me feel I was growing along with the lotus bloom. The mention of long stem, the reach — gave movement of the awakening. Good, too, the image of the lotus blossom….because for me each petal reminds me of a person, all persons standing up together to meet the sun. Graceful piece. Peace. ~~ djl
