Mirrors of Delusion

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With war dominating the international news, be it Gaza, or any other child’s-play-battle. How many more years will we indulge war with tried and proven worthless persuasion? Some would argue forever “it’s our nature.” Some would argue “It’s hard-wired.” Somebody needs to proffer the difference and maybe create an armistice of mind, if not of body. Have I mentioned “fear” as the most destructive force in the universe, and the most used excuse for war? ( Image by Irena Buzarewiczon)

Mirrors of Delusion

How true that ghosts of ubiquitous corpses rise up
with nary an epiphany to rely on,
no insight to ruminate about.

Like embalmed habits,
the quest of no return,
the take-no-prisoners mindset
continues without pause.

And yet…

We point fingers at Near Eastern neighbors
and their tribal persistence of pain,
as if we know better.

We…

Who only use a different lexicon
to explore futility,
to frame our mirrors,

when the reflections can only present truth,

regardless of language.

Why does the mirrored beholder
remain mute?

Might it be that ignorance is difficult to change

without the willingness to be honest?

Warmongers pay attention.

Do you honestly believe your efforts

are for the betterment of mankind,

for the planet’s gift of plants, animals, birds and fish?

How about air to breathe, void of contamination?

Who needs to get a life, huh?

Maybe the pawns of the world masquerading as kings?

Hello… the Hill.

The Hill alas is sleeping, as if having taken t he drug of the damned. We live in a world of exciting technological advances that have changed the way we live, and we live in a world of appalling war, death, and destruction where the innocent have no change to flourish and life. Who needs to get a life, indeed, but those war mongers you speak of.

Last Monday, 60 Minutes showed a town and countryside where Russia has dropped or planted thousands of mines that lay in wait of anyone walking through that doesn't know a safe path or one cleared by painstaking mine removal. Every tall field of grass can be a death trap for a young child just wanting to run through the field… Or innocent animals just doing what they do.

Behind the scenes are the manufacturers of armaments who are a self perpetuating process where they have to have war in order to remain prosperous. The war to end all wars has not happened yet. But if it does, the entire earth will suffer for thousands of years.

Your poem cries out for The Hill to pay attention. Perhaps it's time we stop sending money and weapons of great destruction to countries who use it for war. And even supplying our militias of self-righteous intent.

It's difficult (and at times painful) to wrap ones head around what we're seeing happening now. I don't think, Odin, that our present administration knows what honesty or integrity is. Alexander Tyler (1750) said it well. Quote taken from the ‘The Cycle of Nations.’ “From bondage to spiritual faith. From spiritual faith to great courage. From courage to liberty. From liberty to abundance. From abundance to complacency. From complacency to apathy. From apathy to dependency. From dependence back again into bondage.” Thank you for sharing. Your honesty is appreciated, and your take (IMO) is spot-on. Hope you're well. Peace.... r
