Light Awakening the Dark

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Thinking about captives around the world, one can’t avoid thinking about what many of them go through in solitary or windowless hovels and how deprived they must feel for the simplest of Nature’s gifts: Light. The other side of this coin might suggest impatience for the night if the daylight overwhelms the heart and mind with a different kind of pain. (Image by wfft)

Poem Artwork

 Light Awakening the Dark

To chase the light

Proves quickly it can’t be lost

There’s always another horizon.

Light allows for rest

Granting its darkness companion

To slide from somnolence

Into deep sleep

Just as the sun fades in the west

Then rising in the east

So too…

The lexiconic artist

Writes close to the window light of his sanctuary

Knowing the sun will soon rest

And nocturnal life will ensue

Giving many cover from the pain of day’s light.

Yes…

Even the writer will take leave of his tired eyes

After he finishes this one paragraph… hopefully.

Chasing the light is a visual to stay with a while. Or the opposite — wanting to push the sun back down, like a jack-in-the-box you don’t want to see. I like when you write about yourself writing. What writer isn’t interested in that! ~~ djl

The true import of darkness and light is one of the great universal mysteries that we can come to appreciate when we take notice, as in this poem.
