Future of Speed

Most everyone has an image of where their destiny might take them. Others can only trust the light leading them to…?

Poem Artwork

 Future of Speed

Destination unknown.

The once clickity clack

Of rail transport emergence,

Now whisper-quiet.

Such speed,

Either out of a gun,

A bullet train,

Or the digital world of the internet and AI.

How quickly man’s ability progresses,

Yet how frequent is one bullied into taking

A back seat to greed and power.

How forlorn the graveyard of wagon wheels

Must feel… their slow prodding along style

Having been abandoned long ago

For the future of speed

A pace of living

We may not

Catch up

With.

That last line is a nice twist. It seems that particularly, AI, outpacing our ability to keep up with it already.

One of the compensations of old age is perhaps the ability to finally slow down and savor what moments that remain. After a lifetime of frenetic and frantic activity, yes, I am no longer in a rush. I will leave speed to the wind, yet who doesn't prefer the gentle breeze. Nature knows that time has its own pace that nothing can alter but the perception of it.
