We are all sensitive to our nighttime dreams, hoping always for a safe landing the following morning.

Poem Artwork

 Nocturnal Happenstance

Dreams know patience

From where
the currents form
that first breath
first cry
suckling
coo

From where
begins tenuous longings
begat by sudden voltage
cranial hostage without voice
not knowing
not yet equipped
only growing synaptic wanderings

From where
comes liberation
sentient pleads exploding
expression finally knowing its needs

Yet

We wonder
we challenge
we...

From where
does creative experience derive its understanding
that place wisdom becomes the new voice
where the stranger’s "Hi"
opens expansive trust
makes attachment moot
relies not on expectation
simply allows the now of then

Patient the dreams

For in its unpredictability

waits rewarding nocturnal journeys of discovery

one may not have ever experienced in reality..

It is interesting how we spend our sleeping lifetime in a world of dreams that we never fully understand or perhaps even begin to understand. Yet, there are there, feeding our consciousness with the unconscious and the unknown. A thought-provoking poem indeed.

Your prosetry leads me to a place where I often arrive. A night full of a story that possibly could be true and often is completely outside of my experience.

But the daylight experience of someone simply saying "Hi" results in an immediate trust. Unless you're writing that at night trust comes more easily than it does in the daytime.

Some dreams certainly (for me) have a healing and enlightening effect. Some just seem a load of gobbledygook, as if your mind is expelling the jetsam and flotsam. Some seem like creative visions for the future. What I can say, with some assurance, is that discussing dreams is a mind-boggling process that rarely loses its vibrancy, primarily because I do not believe that any answers we can come up with about them are truly definitive. Thanks. Enjoyed. Peace... rlc

One of my favorite topics, Odin. Dreams. This piece moves curiosity to the frontal cortex, with optics of a greeting being positively in the trust department. “cranial hostage without voice” sure describes subconscious concoctions of both haven and horror. Especially effective is the line “we….” and then no finish. I wish no one would have to endure terrifying nightmares. The heart attack kind that have haunted me as though I was a little red fox in a previous life. The bugles! The hounds! Write on….~~ djl
