Cyclicity of Regret

Poem Artwork

 Cyclicity of Regret

Noise

Chaos

Directional mayhem

Stifled Emotional Intelligence.

Such goes the classrooms of life behavior

Finding teachers and students

Arguing the merits of our upcoming era

Whether to embrace fear and regret

Or address every moment with a carpe diem trust?

Might many be abandoning constructive thinking and behaving

All together

Finding themselves suspended beneath the strings of degenerate power

Masquerading at times as a theocracy.

Is it not possible

That in today’s world

Manipulation comes in many forms

Generated from those

Who need to control the regrets of many

In order to appease and deny their own distress?

Abandoning self-respect

Is to risk becoming puppetized and manipulated

By a triumvirate or duumvirate of leadership

Offering us not even the kind of love and care

A moppet

A Howdy-Doody

A Punchinello

Or a much-adored Elmo

Big Bird

Or Cookie Monster receives.

Yes…

The cyclicity of regret

Could be upon us because

We perhaps made the wrong decision

Common sense dictated turn left, but right was chosen

A pause when the light was green

Then pushing on through the obvious red light

Resulting in a tangled collision of will vs reluctance.

Lest we forget…

Life comes with no guarantees

Excepting your mortality accepting death in due time.

Life hovers our existence over possibilities

And like the light and dark nature of our twenty-four-hour cycles

Gives us varied choices

Resulting in openness or closedness,

Acceptance or rejection

Living or dreading

Becoming

Or

Rejecting

The cyclicity of regret

regret is growth , even if you walked into your error as a fool. Or whole heartedly dove in knowing the consequence. To ignore regret would be a denial of our true feelings, or our , sometimes no good options , but let’s go this way and hope for the best. Maybe it’s just a Segway to hope , something better.

Love that word, cyclicity. And some of the other words in this insightful poem about our future prospects where we are now in what we would lovely call a new phase of the Punch and Judy puppet show.

One thing is for certain. The show will be over in four years and the pendulum will swing back to a more neutral place. My only worry is that all of the delay and doing the right thing caused by all these dumb wits who have all those regrets and want to blame someone for them besides their own actions, have postponed the inevitable, too long.

Engrossing AI choice. The “Yes….” stanza, the whole thing, is the heart of this artichoke for me…(although the leaves are worthy also). Especially the line “Resulting in a tangled collision of will vs reluctance.” “tangled collision” those two words together feel accurate in how I feel today, felt yesterday, and for eight years now. “A pause when the light was green” what a great way to put it. Openness or closedness…indeed. ~~ djl

Yes, I find regret an interesting and in some way unnecessary emotion, thought-process, possibility. It is possible to have regret without actually understand what it means to regret. In some way, regret must be based on mistakes of the past, but wouldn't it be far better to shelve regret and move forward to correct, and never make again, the mistakes of the past. As you write astutely: "Life hovers our existence over possibilities. . . " Let's find the light and not the darkness of those possibilities so that we need no regret.
