Arguably, light determines many anticipations, and acceptances. (Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Darkness Waits for No One

Like all crepuscular life,

Humans co-exist with other living creatures,

Finding that brief period between sun fading

And moon rising,

As preparation

For the mesmerizing anticipation

Of the dark unknown.

What is it about the twilight

That brings melancholy thoughts,

Remembrances of the many yesterday-hours that dimmed,

Bringing the often mysterious nature of the sun announcing closure?

As the light fades into

The world’s life in transition,

It becomes the time of rest,

Some for the night,

Some forever.

Yet…

With an ending’s prelude,

Sublime glows the anticipation

Of a new beginning of wonderment,

Whether nocturnal

Or

One’s final exhalation.

The approaching darkness can bring anticipation or fear. Especially for those reaching the end of life and that darkness.

Well written with a lot too Think about between the lines.

I can’t say sunset is melancholy, it’s a beautiful ending to a “long” day! Hope of a new one .

Didn’t nave to wait very long before going to the dictionary, Odin. First line. No hesitation with me for choosing “Sublime glows the anticipation” as my favorite line. Good choice, the use of ‘sublime,’ which can be ‘extraordinarily wonderful’ OR ‘tremendously horrific,’ (Joseph Campbell, The Power Of The Myth). In addition I enjoy the subject-verb inversion in that line. It makes even the most succinct sentence in creative writing. . . more arresting. We surely can relate to that last line….especially in our elder years. ~~ djl. (a little stowaway comma in the word ‘night,’ I think)
