The Well-Dressed Politician
The emperor approached the podium
Resplendent from head to toes
His hair was combed his tie in place
Convinced his words would find no foes.
He looked around and toward the skies
With wisdom clearly in his eyes
In his stature and in his pose.
“We have no deal” he intoned.
His words were carefully chosen
He cleared his throat there had been no vote
The brethren remained unmoved
And unfrozen.
“But…but you must uphold your oath”
Was heard from far off in the crowd.
The emperor turned to his left profile
And spoke in a manner loud
“I’ve done my job the best I could.”
He moved away in stately form
As one who surely knows.
“Look” cried a small child
From a distance far from view
And with the innocence of youth
Disclosed to all …
“The emperor has no clothes.”
