The Intruder
(Love never knocks twice)

How many times can your body and soul
Fall in love?
You can count them on five fingers
The heart is strong but
It is discerning
Resilient but
It remembers
Survivable but
It has limits.
The possibilities
Are everywhere
And they are so
Enjoyable—
A touch a whisper
A knowing smile
Elicit endless sensations that
Reverberate for days
Or years.
And then it happens—
So perfect except for
The timing.
Other priorities
Other commitments
Intervene like an
Attack of bees.
Was it another ship passing
In the night?
Then the days turn into
Years
And that empty room
Remains empty.
And just when you least
Expect it
An intruder stumbles by
And upsets the apple cart.
You open the door
From inside that empty room
To check on the commotion
Going on around you.
When you return
You find your inner sanctum
Has been invaded.
You have another occupant.
Suddenly you are both naked
With no barriers of any kind
Between you.
You know what you must do—
You close the door and
Hang a sign
That reads:
Do not disturb.

Nice write. It ended just when it was getting good. Is there a sequel here?
