A Rose for You

There are many ways to say I love you
And words are very nice
But what about the sweetness
That is the rose?
It carries an ambience
Of sensory delights
Invoking sight and sense and touch;
It is as delicate as a baby’s fingers
Yet more far reaching;
It is fragile yet its message is so enduring;
It is of this world yet reminiscent of so much more;
Poets revel in its delights
Dreamers dream under its spell
Lovers might love without it
But who would want to try?
A rose is calming
A rose is charming
A rose tells a story—
Even Moses supposes his toes-es are roses;
And so I offer you a token of my love
That is all those things and more—
May it carry to you my deepest feelings
Meant only for you
Of what is
And of what can be
And of what will be
Now and forever.
