Dimash

Perhaps it is a sign of my impending doom, but I have recently been captivated by the glory that is youth.  My focus here is embodied in a 25-year old singer, musician, entertainer from Kyrgyzstan by the name of Dimash Kudaibergen.  He is easily the best singer I have ever heard, even though many admirers and reviewers believe he is from another planet. His voice range is 6 octaves plus 1 note. He can traverse that range almost effortlessly, in any style, with total control--mellifluously, passionately--while setting a mood and telling a story, in any of 6 different languages,  holding his audience spellbound, or cheering at the top of their lungs. His signature performance is called “S.O.S,” the distress signal. He sang it on “The Voice,” and brought the judges and the entire audience to their feet roaring their approval. Shakira was the first to stand.  

Dimash began to blossom about 5 years ago, hit his stride 3 years ago, and today he is in full bloom. There is one YouTube video with 48 of his songs that is more than 3 hours long. A Google search will take you there. Another 100 or more YouTube videos are accessible in which he mesmerizes audiences one after another, or he knocks over professional reviewers and voice coaches like they were dominos. Dimash has no peer, so they have no standard against which to compare him. He is his own standard. Add to that resume that he is a cool guy, 6 ft 3 in. tall, slender, athletic, good-looking, with a totally commanding stage presence, and there stands a dozen great entertainers all in one package. If you have not heard of him, you are probably thinking that I am hallucinating and a ready for the funny farm. But after you see all genders, all races, all ages, all ethnicities falling apart in astonishment--cheering, swooning, crying--you will become one of his “dears”—a devoted fan. But don’t take my word as gospel.  Check him out here.
