Lost in the Mist

There once was a time
When our love was daring and new
When we kissed with passion sublime
As lovers often do.

We sang we soared
Like eagles on the wing
We thought our love would always bring
That raw passion that we knew.

Our connection was so strong
It carried us along
Thinking nothing could go wrong...
Until one day – it did.

We thrashed as we fell
We swam against the tide
All to no avail
Ripped apart by the ride…

We were immersed in a fresh design
With too much rhythm too little rhyme.
Our painful fall erased it all
and left us stranded
on the sands of time.

The inevitable pain
Wiped away all our gain
That was not to be
Not for you and
Not for me.

But love has a way of clinging
Like distant bells ringing
A song a theme a rhyme
Against the windmills of time
When first we tasted love.

It's hard to let go, isn't it, when a dream meets its end and then becomes a memory. Especially when that dream was a living, loving reality. But oh to have lived it! Many are never so blessed.

A tender, wistful reflection on love’s rise and unraveling. The imagery of soaring, falling, and finally hearing those distant bells captures the way first love lingers long after its ending. Beautifully expressed.

Eloquently expressed, Ed. It captures that precious if ever elusive 'condition' we all contract when we are young and full of hope and dreams, quite perfectly. How utterly sad that our primitive understanding of 'time' and biological mandates dooms us all to eventually lose that brilliantly ebullient sense of unbounded regard for another, that is one of the priceless (if fleeting) entitlements of youth. But the fact that it inspires such paeans of passionate commemoration as this, helps lessen the pain that is often a camp follower of love! I also very much enjoyed this one! It transported me to many similar ports of call I have transited through in my own past. Kudos. -K2

One of your best! From the heart without cliché victimization, just picking yourself up, dusting off, and off to new experiences. My latest posting, "Lasting Relationships" addresses some of your focus as well. Keep writing with that developing poetic skill. Enjoyed this. Thank you for posting.
