That's What Love, Has to Do With It!
When I was about 12yrs old. I had a little wired haired, terrier looking dog, I called Prissy. My daddy, never would let us have girl dog, he said they was to much trouble. Well, She had come up as a puppy, and me and her, took to each other right off. So, I begged daddy and he let me keep her.
I had to walk two miles to school, and two miles back home everyday. That Prissy, well... she would walk with me, all the way to school, every morning and in the afternoon, she'd meet me about about a quarter mile from school, a coming home. I really loved that dog! She somehow came in heat, as daddy called it and wound up pregnant. That's when my daddy hauled her off. Me a squalling and a begging him not to! I cried for days, and at that moment, I hated my daddy, for hauling her off! I wouldn't even talk to him for a few days. I was also sad and depressed...
About a month later. I had walked home from school. After I got home, I was a sweeping off the front porch, and something drew my attention up the dirt road. There come prissy! She saw me and come a flying, jumping and a wagging to me. I cried and hugged her, then we spent a few minutes, catching up! At that moment, I was a happy child :) and then I thought about daddy! He'd be a getting off work soon and a coming home... fear gripped my heart. Not for me, because daddy never was outright mean to us younguns, and we never got a whupping, unless we really deserved one. Me being the only girl, at the time. I was pretty much, daddys pick of the litter... When daddy got home that afternoon, and saw Prissy, I thought he was gonna cry! He said, that since she had found her way back home, she could stay, as long as it made me happy.
He told me when I got older, that he had went back to where he hauled her off to, about ten miles away, looking for her; but could not find her. When he saw how unhappy I was, and he thought I hated him. He said, that it broke his heart. Seems like our happiness, was what made him happy :) I loved that little dog; but she and daddy, both taught me another lesson, and that was, That when we love the people or animals in our lives, we will do all we can to make them smile and be happy. Our pets can be wonderful companions, and fill a void in our lives. A dog or cat will bond with someone, as strongly as us humans, and do anything, to be with that someone. Also a Pets or Parents love, comes unconditionally, and that is, what love is. Right?
