Is honesty the best policy? Sometimes i seriously doubt it. Especially if it's something I don't want to hear. I have a friend, who dishes out 'honesty' as if it were unfiltered running water. Whenever she preambles something with the words, 'don't take it personal' or, my all-tme favorite, 'I only tell you for your own good', I know I have to brace myself for the onslaught. Most of the time it is personal and for her own good. If it were for mine I would really rather not hear it. Really. The funny thing about these do-gooders, who spread their unsolicited good-will, is the fact that they are old pros at dishing it out, but try dishing it back to them. An entirely different matter.
Of course, whenever I'm around this particular person, (which is sometimes unavoidable) I put on my thick skin, coat myself with teflon and remember some words I once heard--What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?
